Kingdom of Gulldahn

Map (8).jpg

The Kingdom of Gulldahn (often nicknamed “Gulls” by enemy soldiers) was formed by the marriage of two formerly warring kingdoms. The kingdom of Gullajra symbolised by an eagle crest, and the Kingdom of Dahnizya who bear the crest of a lion. The joining of these kingdoms happened recently with the first King and Queen of Gulldahn still living to this day.

The Kingdom occupies several territories located to the west of the ancients’ capital city, Centra. Although now one kingdom, citizens still show loyalty to the kingdom in which their heritage lies. This is often done through clothing and is encouraged by the Crown so as to promote pride among the population. Military dress uniform is mainly blue, Front line troops generally wear Olive drab Green. Due to the Kingdoms military being formed of troops trained by the lands nobles, soldiers often still wear attire native to their homeland alongside uniform. Kingdom society closely resembles that of the medieval age. Wealthy nobles are granted land by the Crown and are responsible for the care and protection of the citizens who live there. Nobles are also expected to train soldiers and produce resources to help the war effort.

Sub-Faction: Houses of Tooth and Talon

The Houses of Tooth and Talon are made up of the former armies of the previously warring kingdoms of Gullajra and Dahnizya. The Dahnizyan forces make up the House of the Tooth. The Gullajrans, the House of the Talon. These houses are fielded by the Gulldahnian throne as one unified force, their core troops. Due to these forces both being born of the same war, and for so long, they are almost identical in all aspects, Technological level, tactics, etc. There is often a fierce but friendly rivalry between the houses who are encouraged by the throne to celebrate and have pride in their heritage.

The Houses make up the bulk infantry force of the unified Gulldahnian army. Armour of the houses commonly includes pieces of plate armour (Armour ranging from mid crusader to early 15th century European). House soldiers will always have either a lion or an Eagle on their uniform depending which house they belong to. Barons will equip their troops in their own livery colours, combined with mixed civilian attire, but all Gulldahn troop wear something to denote their fealty to the kingdom, usually either a livery bend, sash, cloak or other such garment in kingdom colurs and bearing heraldry. Nobility often do this in reverse, wearing mainly the colours of the kingdom then supplementing with an item of their household or family.

Fighting styles of the houses still very much draws from medieval warfare but has adapted to include the new weaponry created by the magical industrial revolution. Instead of full blocks of combat troops in multiple ranks now stands as one rank of melee fighters with a second rank of riflemen. The Attraxan Accord was welcomed heartily by the houses as they believe that even in war one much always be honourable.

Sub-Faction: The Eisengarm Clans

The Eisengarm are a warrior people whose origin is traced to the mountain regions now in the very North of Gulldahnian lands. Warriors of Eisengarm are known for their undying resilience against even the most fearsome foe. It is a common view among the Eisengarm that when the weather is your greatest danger, you have no choice but to grow strong. The first records of Eisengarm warriors among Kingdom forces date to just after the start of the 3rd Gulldahnian war. It is said that the Kingdom of Danizya fielded these relentless battlers in an attempt to gain an edge in their stalemate war with Gullajra. The war was indeed turned in Dahnizyas favour, up until the introduction of Kasumae tacticians amongst the Gullajran ranks.

Eisengarm society follows a strict clan structure in which only the most worthy warriors may rise to positions of power. In times gone by it was not unheard of for aspiring clan chiefs to kill their opponents in contests of strength. This has since been outlawed by the Gulldahn throne. New chiefs are now appointed by a fight between the candidates apprentices. Due to the harsh cold conditions of their homeland, Eisengarm warriors tend to wear furs and pelts over the top of their royal military uniform. Some have taken to wearing bespectacled helmets with the eyes meshed or glassed over so as to keep snow out of their eyes. Eisengarm warriors fielded long ranks of round shields, wore maille armour under their coats and fought with medium length, unguarded swords. Many troops still field these weapons to this day, many using weapons passed down through generations. Some will be supplemented with whatever the Gulldahn Households will equip them with. They take great pride in their alliance with Gulldahn, Eisengarm have always seen strength in numbers “Many wolves can kill the strongest bear” is an ancient saying that was uttered during the signing of the treaty. The White wolf is their kingdoms old livery, often born on their clan heraldry, but they still wear the Gulldahn Royal emblem, often on fabric draped over shields or on sashes hanging from belts into battle.

Sub-Faction: The Kasumae Tribes

The Kasumae tribesmen are a forest dwelling people renowned for their sharp wit and tactical minds. The soldiers of Kasumae favour fast, precise strikes as opposed to raw power in battle. One should never underestimate a Kasumae for they always have a trick up their sleeve. The Kasumae were introduced to Gulldahnian forces in the final months of the Gulldahn war. The Kingdom of Gullajra having been overwhelmed by Dahnizyan and Eisengarm forces needed an ally. This ally was found in the Kasumae and their master tacticians. A plan was formed to assassinate all of the Eisengarm chiefs, causing power struggles within their ranks. The plan was perfectly executed and Eisengarm soon fell into chaos. The Dahnizyan army was left without their edge in battle and the war once again became a stalemate.

A Kasumae will often claim the best way to not be hurt is to not be hit. Heavy clothing is thought to weigh down both the body and mind. People of Kasumae as a whole do not like to wear heavy clothing, favouring light and nimble wear instead, often light wools in Tribe colours.

Great joy is found in hunting in Kasumae society. The thrill of outwitting prey is irresistible to all Kasumae. In battle, they act as fast attack skirmishers, hit and run tactics are their fortay. Kasumae wear woad paint across their faces to appear as mythological forest spirits to strike fear into their enemies. They often fought with spears, handaxes, shortbows and small shields/bucklers. Nowadays, not much has changed, short of the replacement of bows with pistols and smaller rifles. The Kasumae, though proud to be with the Kingdoms, don’t commonly wear the heraldry too prominently, as they believe it will give them away if being used as ambush troops. This sometimes rubs up the Eisengarm the wrong way, often seen as disrespectful by the Northern clans
