This specialist class is from the old world of Gallea, where honour and chivalry hold a belief that you should look your enemy in the eye and strike them with mace or blade in equal measure. Arrows and slings are weapons of cowards in the mind of the Gulldahnian Lancer, who also form the center line in the battle formations of the Royal Forces of Gulldahn, their house colors flying in the breeze for all to see as they wear them with pride.   A Revaaran Shock Lancer would feel naked without their Blade and Shield to protect them, shoulder to shoulder with their comrades in the battle line. In Imperial lines there is a more industrial uniformity than their enemies to the West. “Down to earth and down to business” is a phrase used by Imperial Shock Lancers.

Since the introduction of the Short Bolt Rifle it has been the belief at higher command levels that some of the “old ways” will need to change in time.  However for now, both sides are struggling to help their troops understand that the world is changing and it’s a poor army that doesn’t change with it. Of course the Lancers also understand this and are actively working with their fellow Soldiers and Troopers to combine their various tactics.  Secretly all Lancers still have a firm belief that a good shield and solid armour protect you from everything and skill in arms is far more important than a Rifle, no matter how good it might be. A sword never runs out of ammunition.

If you wish to play a character that relies heavily on close combat, the Lancer is the strongest class. For ease of reference the equipment list for the Lancer is as follows:

Each Lancer is protected by up to Heavy Armour and may carry a large

shield.  For reference, the large shield is limited by the height of the

player.

No Lancer may carry a shield that is larger than the distance from the

floor to their waist, standing up.  The shield may be smaller, but no

larger than this.

They may carry a knife or equivalent up to 18” long;

a short melee weapon no longer than 24”

a longer melee weapon up to 42” in length;

or a two-handed weapon up to 60".

They may not carry any ammunition or magazines.

They may also not carry a pistol.

Any of these weapons may be used in either hand and “dual wielded” should the player wish to do so. However should the shield be taken in either hand that hand may not hold anything else, even if the large shield is strapped to the arm. Two handed weapons cannot be dual wielded for obvious reasons.
